Asbestos Surveys

Types of Asbestos Surveys

At More Environmental we have 4 different types of surveys such as Asbestos Management Surveys, Asbestos Refurbishment Surveys, Asbestos Demolition Surveys and Asbestos Re-inspection Surveys.

Asbestos Management Surveys

The purpose of an asbestos management survey is to identify the presence and location of any asbestos in a building which could give rise to a risk of exposure to respirable asbestos fibres.

This includes any ACM that could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy or maintenance and installation work. The information collected from an asbestos management survey is also used to create an asbestos register and from there develop an asbestos management plan.

Asbestos Management Surveys are therefore essential for achieve compliance with the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 as both an Asbestos Register and Asbestos Management Plan are a legal requirement.

Asbestos Refurbishment Surveys

Asbestos refurbishment surveys are required where parts of a building are being altered in a way that may disturb the fabric of the
building and thus any ACMs which maybe hidden therein.

To avoid potential exposure and non-compliance asbestos refurbishment surveys should be conducted before any intrusive maintenance work or before the dismantling of plant machinery.

Any ACMs found during a refurbishment survey should be removed before refurbishment work begins assuming works cannot be amended to avoid the ACMs
altogether.

Asbestos Demolition Surveys

Asbestos demolition surveys are required where buildings built before 2000 are set to be demolished.

These fully intrusive surveys must be completed before the demolition process begins, ensuring that no ACMS are hidden within the building’s structures.

As with asbestos refurbishment surveys, ACMs found during an asbestos demolition survey should be removed before the
demolition begins.

Asbestos Re-Inspection Surveys

The Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 require that the condition of known ACMs be inspected regularly, and records updated accordingly.

This is defined as at intervals of no greater than 5 yearly.

More Environmental’s P402 qualified asbestos surveyors can re-inspect premises and provide these update to existing asbestos management plans to ensure full compliance is achieved.
