Contaminated Land and Ground Remediation
When considering land or soils on projects, you need to meet the local and / or regional legislative requirements. Therefore, consideration of the Resource Management (National Environmental Standard for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health) Regulations 2011 (NESCS) is required for activities such as subdivision, change in land use and soil disturbance on land that is being / has been / is more likely than not to have been subject to certain activities or industries listed on the Ministry for the Environment’s (MfE’s) Hazardous Activities and Industries List (HAIL).
The list is a compilation of activities and industries that are considered likely to cause land contamination resulting from hazardous substance use, storage or disposal. The HAIL is intended to identify most situations in New Zealand where hazardous substances could cause, and in many cases have caused, land contamination. The HAIL groups similar industries together, which typically use or store hazardous substances that could cause contamination if these substances escaped from safe storage, were disposed of on the site, or were lost to the environment through their use.
Environmental engineering and sustainability have an increasing focus in development engineering. Human interaction can have a significant impact on the natural environment which requires careful consideration to local and regional legislative requirements when interacting with or subdividing land.
To meet the local and regional environmental legislative requirements for your project, we offer specialist environmental consultancy services in the assessment and management of potentially contaminated land within the residential, commercial and infrastructure sectors.
Working with our partners at Geologix we provide a specialist focus on contaminated land and ground remediation including:
- Environmental sampling (soil and water)
- Environmental monitoring / compliance monitoring
- Site investigations such as HAIL assessments and preliminary and detailed site investigations
- Site management and remediation action plans
- Resource consent compliance
- Site completion reporting and sign off
- Peer reviews
